The day before was quite a strange experience for The Undaunted Guardian of Marooner’s Bay.
She had dealt with many violent foes before, & she had successfully fended them away from the grounds. It’s her title’s sake; it’s what she’s supposed to do.
Then, this octoling shows up out of nowhere & starts complimenting her fork, asking where she got it.. it was confusing for The Undaunted Guardian. It was the first time she had held up a conversation with someone that wasn’t a salmonid.
Yet.. for some odd reason, The Undaunted Guardian couldn’t stop thinking about them. These thoughts were diverting her away from her duties. She decided it was best to hide those thoughts & never mention it ever again.
It’s quite hard to do that when the octoling returned a second time, however.
The sound of whirring helicopter propellers caught The Undaunted Guardian’s attention. As she looked up, a pink blob came jumping toward the bow of the boat. They landed, shifting themselves back into octoling form.
“Hello!!” they waved.
“You again?!” The Undaunted Guardian readied her fork.
“Yup! The one & only!”
“Why are you back?!”
“Well, I thought maybe we could be friends!”
“..Friends?”
“Yeah! Friends! I brought drinks & everything!”
The octoling handed some sort of canister to The Undaunted Guardian.
“You want one?” the octoling asked.
“What in Cohozuna’s name is that?”
“It’s a soda! Try it!”
Reluctantly, The Undaunted Guardian grabbed the can of soda out of the octoling’s hands. She cracks it open & cautiously takes a sip. It was.. sweet & fizzy, to The Undaunted Guardian’s surprise.
“Oh. That’s.. good?”
“Yay! I’m glad you like it!”
The octoling opens a soda of their own & takes a sip as well.
“So! Are you down to be friends?”
“...The kings would likely not approve of this, but.. I.. will think about it.”
The Undaunted Guardian was not going to think about it, but the octoling didn’t need to know that.
“Awesome!! See you tomorrow, Undaunted Guardian of Marooner’s Bay!” the octoling smiled.
“Wh- tomorrow? Wait-”
Before The Undaunted Guardian could get another word out, the octoling was already jumping back to the helicopter.
“Oh, cod damn it..” she groaned. “I don’t even know their name..”
